Ime Udoka Named Boston Celtics Head Coach
Celtics to Name Two Team Captains This Season
Who's in the Running?
The Boston Celtics have named seven-year NBA veteran Ime Udoka as the franchise's head coach, replacing Brad Stevens. Udoka, who spent the past season as an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets, becomes the first Nigerian-born head coach in NBA history.
As he takes over the reins of the Celtics, Udoka is expected to implement a more defensive-minded approach to the team's play. He inherits a roster that includes All-Star Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart, as well as young stars Jaylen Brown and Robert Williams III.
One of the first decisions Udoka will make is the naming of two team captains for the upcoming season. According to sources close to the team, the following players are in consideration for the role:
- Jayson Tatum
- Marcus Smart
- Jaylen Brown
- Robert Williams III
The Celtics are expected to announce their team captains prior to the start of training camp, which is scheduled to begin on September 28th.
