Russell triumphs at Spa, Verstappen extends title lead

Russell holds off Hamilton for Mercedes one-two

George Russell claimed a stunning victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, holding off Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to take the win from sixth on the grid.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who started 13th, finished third to extend his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship.

Russell's charge from sixth

Russell made a strong start from sixth on the grid, quickly moving up to third behind Verstappen and Carlos Sainz of Ferrari.

He then passed Verstappen on the opening lap and took the lead from Sainz on Lap 10.

Hamilton, who started eighth, also made a strong start and moved up to fourth on the opening lap.

He then passed Sainz on Lap 15 and closed the gap to Russell.

The two Mercedes drivers battled for the lead for several laps, with Russell eventually pulling away to take the win.

Verstappen extends title lead

Verstappen's third-place finish extended his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship to 93 points.

Russell moved up to second in the standings, 12 points ahead of Hamilton.
