Chelsea 5-0 Wrexham AFC: Blues kick off pre-season with thumping win

Chelsea kicked off their pre-season campaign with a thumping 5-0 win over Wrexham AFC at the Kenan Memorial Stadium in North Carolina.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher and Ben Chilwell earned the Blues a comfortable victory in their first match under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Chelsea dominated the game from start to finish, with Nkunku opening the scoring in the first half with a fine finish from outside the box.

Maatsen doubled the lead early in the second half with a header from a corner, before Gallagher made it 3-0 with a powerful strike from inside the area.

Chilwell added a fourth with a close-range finish, and Gallagher completed the scoring with a penalty in the dying minutes.

It was a comprehensive performance from Chelsea, who showed glimpses of the attacking threat they will pose this season.

Nkunku was particularly impressive, and he looks set to be a key player for the Blues this season.

Pochettino will be pleased with the way his team played, and he will be hoping for more of the same in the upcoming matches.
