Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek says a report on the future of the Green Line is expected to be released later this year.

The city commissioned an independent review of the Green Line project in 2021 after the provincial government announced it would not be providing funding for the project. The review is being conducted by Ernst & Young, and is expected to provide recommendations on the future of the Green Line.

In a statement, Gondek said she met with Alberta Transportation Minister Rajan Sawhney on Monday to discuss the Green Line and other transportation projects. She said Sawhney assured her that the province is committed to working with the city on the Green Line.

"The province is committed to working with the city on the Green Line, and we are confident that the independent review will provide valuable recommendations on the future of the project," Gondek said. "We look forward to receiving the report later this year."

The Green Line is a proposed 46-kilometre light rail transit line that would run from north to south Calgary. The project has been in the planning stages for over a decade, but has been delayed due to funding issues.

The city has said that it is committed to building the Green Line, but needs the province to provide funding. The province has said that it is not willing to provide funding for the project at this time.
